Glass or flint paper as it is known is made from crushed quartz and is the cheapest of all sandpaper. Best used for removing thick paint and resin material as they are cheap enough that after loading you can throw them away and put them in a new sheet. 

Alumina is the most common and readily available abrasive and the preferred sandpaper for most grinding machines. Alumina is made from bauxite which is melted in an electric furnace. Available in various colors red, brown, gray, or black. All sandpaper comes with block paper or canvas. Paper blocks are available in five different qualities from A to F, with F being the heaviest. Lighter paper is used for the finer grains of sand.
